It was the year of culottes and off-shoulder blouses, of velvet and over-the-knee boots. Bomber jackets, ballerina-inspired pieces and the metallic trend hit the street-style scene just like the patches did. However, it also was the year of changes. Happenings like the US election showed that emotions have become more important than facts. Besides, high fashion labels like Tommy Hilfiger revolutionised the industry with ‘See now, Buy now’. 2016 – why this year will stay in our minds for a long time.
How the colors of the year showed up
It all started happy and pink. To be exact, it everything was colored in rose quartz and serenity blue. They were elected to the official colors of the year by the international color system Pantone. The soft combination was spotted in fashion, design and they even played important roles in architecture. First of all, the two tones represent the growing gender blur which especially is important in the world of fashion. Big houses like Gucci, Burberry or Saint Laurent have continued to embrace the idea of a genderless style. Also, Instagram Stars like Adwoa Aboah have shown that there is no clear line between masculine or feminine anymore – all that matters who you are as a person.
At the same time, the color combination of the sweet rose tone and the cool blue showed the soothing sense of order and piece. It seems though like the world would have needed an extra portion of those feelings. Terror has become an order of the day and two of the most powerful countries were shaken up – England got Brexit, the USA got Trump. Actually, it was a sign for the whole world. Now it is up to us what we make out of it.
Serious fashion
Even though those phrases might sound a bit political, in the end, everything has been reflected in fashion. People want to show that they are strong, so they wear bomber jackets and massive biker boots. People want to remind themselves of the good old times, so they wear granny-inspired looks, jacquard pieces and baroque prints. People want to feel comfortable and glamorous simultaneously, so they choose velvet. Last but not least, the color combination of rose quartz and serenity blue has been running like a golden thread through every single trend.

Die Bomber-Jacken, der Metallic Trend und die Ballerina-Looks prägten die Streetstyle-Szene genau so wie die Patches. Doch es war auch ein Jahr voller Veränderungen. Ereignisse wie der US-Wahlkampf zeigten, dass Gefühle wichtiger wurden als Fakten. Daneben revolutionierten High Fashion Labels wie Tommy Hilfiger die Modeindustrie mit „See now, Buy now“. 2016 – ein Jahr, das noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben wird.
So zeigten sich die Farben des Jahres
Am Anfang war alles pink und fröhlich. Genauer gesagt, waren es Rosa und Himmelblau, die vom internationalen Farbsystem Pantone zu den Farben des Jahres gekürt wurden. So wiederspiegelten sie sich in der Mode, im Design und sogar in der Architektur. Was die Modewelt betrifft, stand die Farbkombination besonders für die Verwischung der Geschlechtergrenzen. Bei den Kollektionen von großen Häusern wie Gucci, Burberry oder Saint Laurent war der androgyne Look besonders auffällig. Zudem zeigten Instagram Stars wie Adwoa Aboah, dass es nicht mehr darauf ankommt, männlich oder weiblich zu sein – entscheidend ist die Person selbst.
Gleichzeitig stehen das zarte Rosa und das kühle Himmelblau für das Gefühl von Ordnung und Frieden. Es scheint, als hätte die Welt dieses Jahr eigentlich eine extra Portion davon gebraucht. Terror wurde zum Alltag und zwei der mächtigsten Länder wurden wach gerüttelt: England entschied sich für Brexit, die USA wählte Trump. Genau genommen, waren diese Ereignisse jedoch ein Weckruf für die ganze Welt. Jetzt liegt es an uns, was wir daraus machen.
Ernst zu nehmende Mode
Obwohl das ein wenig politisch klingt, letztendlich reflektiert die Mode alles: Die Leute wollen sich stark fühlen, deshalb tragen sie Bomber Jacken und klobige Biker Boots. Die Leute wollen sich an die guten alten Zeiten erinnern, deshalb tragen sie Omi-Looks, Jacquard-Blousons und Kleider mit Barock-Muster. Die Leute wollen sich geborgen und glamourös zugleich fühlen, deshalb entscheiden sie sich für Samt. Dabei ist der Faden, der sich durch all diese Trends durchgezogen hat, nicht rot, sondern Rosa und Himmelblau.
