Fashion repeats itself – at least this is how it may seem at first sight. Often however, this impression is only half the story. Eventually, there is a reason why the trends of the previous decades show up again. So such as corduroy, the 80s-inspired pantsuits belong to the most loved trends of the season. Let’s have a closer look – you will probably agree that the blazer and pants combo reflects our current time pretty accurately.
The Power Combo
Whether you go for the checked, oversized or boldly colored version – blazers and pantsuits rule the fashion trends of this fall/winter season. Especially classic labels like Jil Sander, Prada or Emporio Armani incorporated the power combination into their collections. Actually, they belonged to the pioneers back in the 80s, when women first started to wear pantsuits. It was the time when emancipated ladies began to work in offices – which was only a men thing up to then. Of course, they wanted to show up as proud and self-assured as their male colleagues did.
So what could represent this confident mood better than a tailored suit with shoulder pads and straight-cut trousers? The real businesswoman was born and it was all about the so-called ‘power-dressing’. Even though more than 30 years have passed since then, today’s situation shows kind a lot of similarities: The re-emerged feminist movement reminds women to believe in their values and to not suppress themselves by any political movements or social tensions. This makes it a good time to draw inspiration form the blazer statement again.

Apparently, it becomes obvious that labels like Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney or Off-White reinterpret the blazers according to today’s zeitgeist. They especially show them in oversized variations – which could belong to men’s wardrobes as well. Like this the trend also resembles the blurred gender lines as they came up in the 80s. Therefore, the most popular jacket of the season symbolizes the current liberal attitude of society, which takes a stand for androgyny and equality. In a stylish conclusion, this proves that this fall is all about suiting it up!
