When the coffee comes with chocolate, when you spontaneously meet up with your friends or when your love surprises you with breakfast in bed. Mostly, those little things in life are the most precious ones. As we are talking about minimalism on CARMITIVE this month, this post is dedicated to five simple pleasures, which make you feel great and content whichever outfit you are wearing.
1. A Simple Smile
There’s probably nothing easier than giving someone a smile. It’s not only about the people you know or see everyday. Just think of the woman who sits next to you in the train, the elderly man who crosses the street or the little girl that looks up to you. A smile has the power to transform a random moment into a great moment. The best thing is, once you smile to someone, you will probably get a smile back – and the world seems as it could do with some more happy vibes.
2. Unexpected Deep Talks
Usually, it starts with a standard situation: You are sitting together with your friends – whether this happens at a friend’s place for a dinner or in a cute café out and about – and suddenly, the talks become more deep. Suddenly, you get to know your best friend in a new way. Suddenly, you don’t want to stop talking. On one hand, it’s the unexpected course of conversation, which makes the whole situation a special one. On another hand, it’s the feeling after, when you know you’ve just learned about a new point of view of a certain topic. Whether this corresponds with your own attitude or not, it’s definitely worth it to look at (simple) things, from all kind of perspectives.
3. The Power Of A Compliment
“That color looks great on you” – “such a great outfit” – “you look amazing” – these sentences might all sound very easy but they actually have an incredibly high impact. Every day, we do our best to feel good in our outfits. And even though we tend to deny compliments with statements like “oh I just threw it over” or “well, that’s not that special”, they still make us happy in the inside. So why not just drop a simple “thank you”? Not only it makes you feel more proud but it also gives a great feeling to the other person. It’s the same thing with presents: the pleasure of giving presents to other people is just as great as it is to unpacking it yourself.
4. Flowers, Flowers, Flowers
Yes, this might be an obvious one. Women love flowers – especially if they come with chocolate or with a new pair of shoes. However, it does not always need a special occasion to give someone a colorful bunch of happiness. What about surprising your best friend or your mom on a random day? Or think of a special date that is important to this person – maybe the upcoming finals, the return of a long holiday trip or an important meeting. Flowers show that you care. Flowers always help.
Before closing this post, keep this one quote from Robert Brault in mind: “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
