Five days of Fashion week mean 120 hours of pure hectic. However, it’s definitely worth every second of it. Before I will cover the shows and different experiences in the upcoming posts, this one is all about taking a breather after the whole excitement – because one lesson I learned from Paris is definitely that you sometimes have to let things fall into place and that enforced perfectionism won’t lead you any further.

You Dress Français?

You could name it the bible of the “Parisian Chic”. From styling tips to beauty topics and love life quotes – the book “How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are“ contains all the “rules” of the exquisite French lifestyle. Actually, those rules only exist in order to be broken. This especially applies on the outfits. As I was strolling – or rather running – through the streets of Paris, it was easy to spot the real Parisian girls. Instead of dressing up super posh and fancy like most of the “fashionistas”, they just stayed true to their style: simple, easy but still very chic and always different. One example was the situation before the Grand Palais after the Chanel fashion show this Tuesday. While the girls in vibrant pink fake fur coats and glittering sequin dresses stepped down the stairs, all eyes were on Caroline de Maigret (editor of “How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are") who was wearing an evening jacket with jeans and a denim jacket to make it an everyday look. Her signature undone bangs and the metallic sunglasses completed the look perfectly. Of course, all street style photographers wanted to have her on their pictures – within 5 seconds they built a wall full of snapping cameras around the Chanel muse and turned away of all other sparkling influencers.

A Pinch of Charm

But why does everyone want to see the Caroline de Maigrets of this world? Why is it all about this combo of basics when you could also get inspired by a much more creative look? Perhaps it’s the growing pressure of perfectionism in our society, which makes a simple look so refreshing. Perhaps it’s because you can adapt this look to any kind of occasion. Perhaps it’s just about the charm, which shows up in each of these Parisian inspired outfits and which you cannot resist – why should you anyway?

Basics & Calmness

Of course this doesn’t mean you should quit on the outfits, which remind of a bird of paradise. In fact, it’s all about the right balance. Sometimes you just feel like wearing a full pink ensemble with a transparent rain coat (a post about this outfit will follow soon). However, when it comes to this look, I was definitely caught by the Parisian mood. Regarding the colors, it was all about the “all black” motto of “How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are”: “If her wardrobe is made up only of black, it's not because she's in mourning. Quite the contrary. Black is the color of celebration, the color of nights that never end, of women who pull the blinds to shut out the dawn.“ Apparently, the shoes had to show up in the color of the night too – who should want to spend a life without black ankle boots anyway? They give every look a strong vibe and on top, they are super practical what comes in quite handy during Fashion Week. Also, stripes and trench coats belong to the wardrobe of French basics. Paired with a baker boy hat, some simple necklaces, a cross body bag (here worn as a belt bag) and the key attitude of a relaxed and calm attitude, they make the perfect outfit à la Parisienne.
