The inner values matter. It’s what we are told over and over again. However, the outer appearance is just as important. Just think of the last time you were not rewarded with enough respect. In situations like these, the outfits really matter. It’s not just about making a good impression but to feel good and comfortable yourself. Whether it’s a suit for a day at the office or a Jumpsuit from Onepiece for an everyday look – let’s have a look at the great impact of nowadays’ “power dressing”.

The Powerful Decade

First of all, we hop back in the 80s for a second. It was the decade of neon colors, leggings, tennis socks and headbands. The cautious and reluctant vibes, which came up after the war years, slowly went by. The 80s crowd really wanted to try out everything possible. Yes, this was just a very short summary. But here’s what the 80s years especially stood for: suits. For the first time, women started to emancipate themselves towards real business ladies. Apparently, they needed the perfect “uniform” for their new life. So it came in handy, that Yves Saint Laurent presented his “Le Smoking” already back in the 70s. During the following decade, the blazer with shoulder pads turned into must-have for all female businesswomen.

The Feel Good Power

This 80s example illustrates the great power of fashion – and this is true for the decades before and after. If someone wants to belong to a social group, he has to fit in. No matter whether we look back to the court of Louis XIV. or the grunge kids back in the 90s, there have always been those certain dress codes. Therefore, it’s likely to be scared of making the wrong decision when choosing the outfit. Today however, the pressure seems to fade. There are so many trends going on simultaneously as never before. People open up for different cultures, attitudes and gender roles. So the key to “power dressing” of 2018 is quite simple: just feel good.

Respect your Power

Nevertheless, there are still some „unwritten“ rules: no shorts at the office and probably, it’s not that common to show up to a meeting in a pajama. Regarding the everyday life, there are way less limits. Maybe you are into the combination of a simple T-shirt and some airy culottes. For the more bold mood though, why not choose a onesie – which is definitely coziness on another level! Whether you wear it for chilling on the couch at home, for heading to the (tennis) training or for the normal daily routine. After all, it all depends on the inner emotions and on a proud mood. Latter also shows up in your attitude and the reaction of how others treat you. Ultimately, the shoulder pads from the 80s show the exact same effect as the proud worn outfits do have today: self-respect. By the way, it’s also known as one of the ever-lasting styling trends – even on the tennis court.
