#QualityTime – a hashtag that numbers over nine million posts on Instagram. Whether it’s a happy picture of dog walking, a spontaneous bike tour with the best friend or a family get-together, there seems to be a wide range of enjoyable moments. Since the hype of longing for valuable invested time keeps increasing, it makes sense to think about it for a second.
What Does Quality Time Actually Mean?
By definition, quality time describes the time that is joyfully spent with your family, friends or a hobby. Whether all the #QualityTime tagged posts really capture moments like this, is anyone’s guess. Either way, they raise awareness to enjoy and appreciate time in a more conscious way. Oftentimes however, this is easier said than done. At least not everyone finds time to read a book in the park while the birds are singing in the background and some sunrays are shining softly onto the flowers next to the bench. And of course you want to visit grandma and grandpa for some coffee and cake fun. For the real experience, don’t forget to thoughtfully look outside the window while taking the train back home. Reality looks a bit different. Nevertheless, I think there is a way for integrating quality time into any kind of everyday life – maybe in a different point of view.
Why It’s Time For A New Hashtag
First, it depends on how you grade the quality of your lifestyle. For me personally, it all comes down to the own feeling, which is quite simple to influence in a positive way by living more consciously. It’s just like sunset: when you are haunted by the atmosphere and can’t stop looking at the pink sky. At the same time, consciousness plays an important role in fashion, food and in how we treat our environment. Imagine you are wearing an outfit that consists of ecological produced clothes, eating a yummy lunch for which no animal had to suffer and simply showing respect to our planet. Like this, every day can be a quality day. So why limit those special moments to a few minutes when you can extend them over your whole life instead? After all, also trends like “slow food” or “fair fashion” show that you can make this choice by yourself.
So next time facing the decision, maybe you choose a conscious life over conscious moments only. Maybe it’s even the decision towards a new hashtag. #QualityLife.
